Normandy

The historical area of Normandy, just to the south of the English Channel, is rife with culture, history, and, like all of France gourmet food and wine, making it a wonderful place to choose to buy property for a second home or your retirement.

Normandy is often compared to Southern England; the peaceful countryside is famed for its dairy farms and beautiful landscapes, making it a wonderfully peaceful place to buy property as a second home, or for your retirement.  You might also choose to buy property as an investment, something that’s becoming more and more popular in this area of France, and often offers a swift return on investment.  With the quiet country lanes and quiet villages just begging to be explored, it’s easy enough to see why buying property in the area is becoming ever more popular.

Normandy is served by a number of airports, and any good travel agent will be able to talk you through the many options available.  You may also considering travelling to France by ferry, and hiring a car in order to reach your property, or final destination, or travelling by France’s swift rail network.

Located in the west of France, Normandy has a warm temperate climate.  Rain is fairly uncommon, although not enough to make the area arid or unpleasant.  Sun is more common than rain, with Normandy receiving around three hundred days of sunshine a year, and summers highs of around 30C, but the rain is enough to create a lush and verdant countryside.

Property prices can vary greatly in parts of Normandy, but, as a general rule, real estate is more expensive the closer you get to Paris.  Buying properties in need of renovation is a fairly popular thing to do in France, and rural Normandy has plenty of properties ready for renovation available at relatively cheap prices.  In the more rural areas of Normandy, even those properties which don’t require renovating are extremely cheap, with a large four bedroom, one bathroom townhouse in Mortagne au Perche costing just over £44,000.  However, a four bedroom property in Region Belleme may cost as much as £275,000, so it’s worth shopping around.
